Christmas Quilty Things

Here’s a quick rundown of some of the things I made for Christmas presents this year (now that all of the recipients have received/opened them). Some of these have been “in the works” since last Christmas – and it was nice to finally finish them up.

See…. I really do still occasionally turn on my sewing machine!    😉

A Wonderful Christmas

I hope you all had a Blessed, relaxed and memory-filled wonderful Christmas spent with those you love!

I was greatly Blessed with exactly that….great food, great family moments, too much laughter (which I SERIOUSLY needed), and some precious memories.

In fact, my favorite memory from this Christmas didn’t involve the weather, the gifts, the food, or anything that you might guess. I do have wonderful memories of all of those things (esp. the moment when Mawmaw and Popa opened – and read – the Family Signature Quilt that I put together for them).

Instead,  my favorite memory took place after all the festivities were over, after all the kids were upstairs for the night, and after all the food had been put away.

My son sat down on the end of the sofa I was laying on ( and I “borrowed” him as a foot rest), while my sister and her hubby curled up in the big double chair across from us, and Mawmaw sat down in the recliner next to me as we turned off the T.V. and lit the fireplace. I dozed off, only to wake up 2 hours later with my son already home, Mawmaw upstairs, and my sis and her hubby still sitting in the big chair (now in their flannel jammies) – keeping me “company” while I slept!    🙂

They were just “being there” with me, watching the fire and enjoying the quiet – like a Christmas postcard! You see, they live 3 hours away – and we really don’t get to see each other much. I knew the minute I opened my eyes that I would remember THAT moment forever – for me, it was truly priceless, and full of love!!

A Christmas I will never forget! A moment I would never trade for the world!

10 Simple Rules for Holiday Survival

No – Really!!

Try these on for size and you’ll breath a little easier this year.    😉

Rule #1 )    Stop Judging – yourself and others

You REALLY don’t want someone judging you if you are honest with yourself, so don’t judge others! Not to mention going easier on yourself/appearance/capabilities will enable you to actually enjoy your Holiday gatherings.

Rule #2 )  Laugh

You only have 2 choices – laugh or cry, and laughing hurts your head a lot less!

Rule #3 )  Reject Obligation

If you feel the need to be giving a gift out of obligation – Don’t!  The recipient will “know” your insincerity, AND you are giving it for the wrong reason. It will Bless no one.

Rule #4 )  Play

Even if it is only spending an hour doing something that you enjoy, and that helps you to “decompress”. You need to balance some “down-time” for yourself with all of the demands being placed on you by everyone else, or you “will not be nice” for long.

Rule #5 )  Moderation

1 piece of chocolate cake won’t kill you, but eating a whole one by yourself will make you miserable!!!

Rule #6 )  Lighten Up!

Ask yourself – do you REALLY need to make 50 dozen cookies this year???

Rule #7 )  Humble Thyself

You are not surrounded by mind-readers, ask for help!!

Rule #8 )  Be Real!! (a.k.a. Expect the Unexpected)

Delays occur, people “forget”, things break, animals mis-behave, kids/people “act-up” – it is NOT the end of the world! It’s just a good story/Christmas memory “in the making”.    😉

Rule #9 )  Smile!

Worst case scenario is that they will think you are “up to something” – or that you have just had waaaayyy too much Eggnog!!

Rule #10 )  Buy extra batteries!

You don’t want your camera loosing power when your in-laws/outlaws are swinging from the chandeliers in their skivies!!

Breath, Relax, and Enjoy your Holidays!

Okay – NOW it’s time to “panic”

WOW! Where has the time went?!?!?

Only a little more than a week until Christmas!!!!! YIKES!!!

Do you have everything done yet???

Me either!!!

In fact, I’ve been so busy with the “day job” that I JUST finished decorating the Christmas Tree!! Like – a few hours ago finished!!! UGH.

At least the presents are “in the works”. Not finished – but at least I’m making progress. That’s something – right????    😉

However, three of them have actually been “in the works” for almost a year now! I guess that kinda deflates that “making progress” balloon, huh???     🙂

Going to work before sunrise, and getting home after dark, with a day filled with strenuous activity outdoors (in nasty cold weather) doesn’t leave you very motivated in the evenings to do much! A hot meal, a hot bath and curling up under some warm blankets while calling it a day is about it!!

I’m ready for Spring!!

How about you?????

In the mean time…..

Here’s a quick recipe I thought you might like to try if you are in a hurry for a last-minute get-together:

Super Simple Cheesecake
2 blocks of cream cheese (do NOT use low-fat) – softened
2 cups of powdered sugar (sifted)
16 oz tub of Cool Whip
2 1/4 cups finely ground graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup  sugar
9 Tablespoons butter, melted
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
To make the crust:
Mix your graham cracker crumbs, your sugar, your melted butter, and cinnamon until well blended. Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan.
To make the filling:
Mix the cream cheese with mixer until smooth. Then add the powdered sugar one cup at a time and mix until smooth. Add in the entire tub of cool whip and  mix until smooth.

****Please do not add items out of this order or your mixture will be lumpy.
Put it in the refrigerator for at least one hour before serving.
When ready to serve:  drizzle with chocolate, or sprinkle with nuts and caramel, or add your favorite pie filling on the top.     🙂

Have a piece for me!!!

The Skinny Dipping Christmas Tree

I bet that’s a title that you never thought you’d see!

Me either.

But – it happened!

Allow me to explain….

Nothing “simple” ever really is….

You see, it all started innocently enough.

A few extra minutes. A run to the garage to retrieve the artificial tree we put up every Christmas. Bring the tree into the house. Remove tree from bag, and set her up. It is in 3 pieces, so it is a no-muss, no-fuss 15 minute set up. You are then ready for decorating at your earliest convenience.

Garage run – check.

Tree into house – check.

Open bag and unpack tree – EEEEEEEEK!!!!!!

What to my wondering eyes should appear, but a hole in the bag – and proof several mice had been living here!!!

Much to the cats great dismay – the mice were long gone, but their “leftovers” were not.

SO – that left me with 2 options:

Throw the whole thing out to the curb and have no Christmas Tree this year (a replacement is not in the budget, you see)…..

 – OR –

BATH TIME!!!!!!  (after a good vacuuming that is)   😉

A lot of Lysol.

A little Pine Sol – gotta have that pine smell ya know!     😉

and Viola’ !

Clean, mousey free Christmas Tree!

Who knew a “garden tub” was just the right size for giving a Christmas Tree a bath!?!

So – how’d you spend your Sunday night? LOL

Merry Christmas Y’all!!!

Here’s wishing you and yours a truly Blessed, warm, safe and very Merry Christmas! May you be surrounded with those you love, and spread love to those you are around! God Bless you all, and thank you from myself and “The Muckrunners” for your “patronage” at the Cafe’ this year!

Merry Christmas!!!

Shady, and The Muckrunners 🙂

Twas the night before Christmas….

Twas the night before Christmas and all thru the land,

the wrapping paper was strewn about,

bows, ribbon and tissue paper in hand.

Earlier than normal, children were hustled off to bed,

while visions of new toys and puppies danced in their heads.

A dolly for Susie, a Big-boy Bike for Jack.

A sweater for mommy, that she hoped to not have to take back.

Screwdrivers, hammers, pliers and such.

Curses, assembly directions, bandaids and blood.

All is endured just to show the little ones your love.

“Some assembly required” is SUCH an evil phrase,

causing mumbling, hair pulling and eyes to become glazed.

While the hours tick oh so swiftly away,

the little ones peek out their windows to hopefully spy a large sleigh.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

everyone was sure something was the matter.

They raced to the windows only to see,

2 crazed neighbors arguing by a tree.

A confrontation had now ensued,

regarding exactly whose parking space was whose.

When up in the sky there suddenly appeared,

snowflakes the size of quarters, for the first time this year!

A hush quickly fell upon the cozy little street,

while all gazed in wonder at the now snowy scene.

Smiles appeared on faces, one and all,

as those big, fluffy snowflakes continued to fall.

Suddenly the reality of Christmas was here,

and Peace took over while hearts filled with cheer.

Neighbors shook hands and went on their merry way,

children finally laid down their heads to pray.

Mommy and daddy quietly finished their chores,

before heading off to bed for some Christmas Eve snores.

Tomorrow is Christmas, and now all was well.

In the morning peals of laughter every house would fill.

Joy would take over, toys would be found,

family would be cherished, and new memories abound.

For this one day there would be Peace in the land,

Christ would be remembered, and Love would be on hand.

So, to you and yours I send these greetings your way,

Merry Christmas to all, and may you have a truly Blessed Christmas Day!!

Merry Christmas too all, and to all a Good Night!!
