Hope

Good Morning Everybody!!

For weeks months now I have been just inches/seconds away from pressing the “Delete” button on this Blog…..

Pressing a button that would forever erase 100’s, no 1000’s of hours of my life, hard work and memories over the last year and a half of my life.

(Yes – That is what you think it is….. I took the above photo last month right over my house – from my front porch – with my phone!! Scary, but it stopped right there with no damage! I wasn’t in the mood for it that day, so I’m sure I looked like a Crazy Woman standing outside yelling at it to “GO AWAY!!”  and “telling it off”, but I didn’t really care at the time, LOL.)

Why had I been thinking of  “Deleting” this Blog?

Because of those whom we shall call “The Critics”, as my all-to-wise son has aptly  “named”  them. Those who stalk this Blog looking for items to criticize me about, or thoughts I’ve posted to fuel the dissention/strife that they wish to live/participate in. Those who are more interested in bringing you grief, than bringing you a smile. Those who are already forming scathing e-mail responses in their minds to the few words that I’ve just written.

We all have them to deal with in our own lives – in different capacities. The difference is in how we let them affect us/our lives.

If I were to hit the “Delete” button – then they win. They “silence” my existence/thoughts and move on to the next person that they wish to monitor/control. And there will always be someone for them to focus on – they will “find them”….. It is all they know.

This Blog is a way to share my creativity with the world.  It is a way for me to share with you the beauty that I come into contact with everyday.  A way to share my thoughts with more than just my “four walls”.  A way to stay connected with those who are too far away from me  for me to just hop in the car and drive over for a visit.  A way to “send” a photo of my world/seasons/flowers/goings-on’s to my friends in other states/countries who are still dealing with ice/snow/dreariness/natural disasters/chaos, and give them a smile when they need it most.  A way to send them some “lifting up”/encouragement/hope that whatever situation they may be dealing with that day – they are not really “alone”.  To give them hope that they can/will get thru it – one day at a time….. Like eating an elephant!     😉

A way to remind others that “this too shall pass”;  and that while “picking up all of the broken pieces” is one of the hardest things that we will ever have to do – if we want to have any hope for tomorrow to be better, then it MUST be done in order to “live” again.  To smile again.  To be a Blessing to someone else who desperately needs some “Hope” themselves.  To give some encouragement/courage to those who are going thru whatever it is that you have already went thru (not stayed-in, went THRU).

To help build someone else up, and to give them a “smile” when they feel like they have nothing left to smile about.  To let them know that there is someone else out there, who has to deal with the same kinds of “craziness” that has visited their house that week.  To remind them to find Joy (if only for a moment in time) in the sunrise/sunset/pretty flower/crazy animal antic that is occurring right in front of them – if they will only stop long enough to see it.

So, I am not closing this Blog.  It helps too many others, if only for a moment in time.  Those it offends – that is their CHOICE….. and they can choose NOT to read it.  I am listening to my son and choosing to no-longer listen  to “The Critics” – but  to listen instead to my heart, my God, and do what makes me happy while it ministers/teaches/helps/build-up others, and brings a smile to someone elses’ tear-stained face. If only for a moment in their world.

To write what gives someone else hope that they too can make it thru the chaos/pain/fear that is going on around them that day; because someone else has already gone thru it – or is going thru it with them from afar.

That they are not completely alone – the world is “crazy” everywhere, and there is someone else out there dealing with something too.  It gives others a “break” from their own reality, while they focus on someone elses’ life/circumstances/chaos/victory.  And sometimes,  just sometimes, this Blog even teaches you how to bake some awesome “yummy thing” to surprise your family with; or even inspires/teaches you how to make some “pretty thing” to make you (or someone else) smile.     🙂

No, I’m not closing my Blog.

I think I will just write more to really piss the critics off.    😉

I’m here to stay – for as long as God will allow. So….

God Bless, and

Have a Great Day!!!     😉

Spring Dreaming

Okay, I (like most everyone else) have had enough of Winter/Cold/Sub-Zero/Ick!! I want some Sun/Flowers/open windows and favorable temperatures!

So, in honor of my Spring Fever, I’m going to post some of my photos taken during my favorite times of year to give us all a bit of a boost.    😉

Ahhhh……. That’s better!     😉

Have a great day!

Christmas Quilty Things

Here’s a quick rundown of some of the things I made for Christmas presents this year (now that all of the recipients have received/opened them). Some of these have been “in the works” since last Christmas – and it was nice to finally finish them up.

See…. I really do still occasionally turn on my sewing machine!    😉

10 Simple Rules for Holiday Survival

No – Really!!

Try these on for size and you’ll breath a little easier this year.    😉

Rule #1 )    Stop Judging – yourself and others

You REALLY don’t want someone judging you if you are honest with yourself, so don’t judge others! Not to mention going easier on yourself/appearance/capabilities will enable you to actually enjoy your Holiday gatherings.

Rule #2 )  Laugh

You only have 2 choices – laugh or cry, and laughing hurts your head a lot less!

Rule #3 )  Reject Obligation

If you feel the need to be giving a gift out of obligation – Don’t!  The recipient will “know” your insincerity, AND you are giving it for the wrong reason. It will Bless no one.

Rule #4 )  Play

Even if it is only spending an hour doing something that you enjoy, and that helps you to “decompress”. You need to balance some “down-time” for yourself with all of the demands being placed on you by everyone else, or you “will not be nice” for long.

Rule #5 )  Moderation

1 piece of chocolate cake won’t kill you, but eating a whole one by yourself will make you miserable!!!

Rule #6 )  Lighten Up!

Ask yourself – do you REALLY need to make 50 dozen cookies this year???

Rule #7 )  Humble Thyself

You are not surrounded by mind-readers, ask for help!!

Rule #8 )  Be Real!! (a.k.a. Expect the Unexpected)

Delays occur, people “forget”, things break, animals mis-behave, kids/people “act-up” – it is NOT the end of the world! It’s just a good story/Christmas memory “in the making”.    😉

Rule #9 )  Smile!

Worst case scenario is that they will think you are “up to something” – or that you have just had waaaayyy too much Eggnog!!

Rule #10 )  Buy extra batteries!

You don’t want your camera loosing power when your in-laws/outlaws are swinging from the chandeliers in their skivies!!

Breath, Relax, and Enjoy your Holidays!

Bathroom Project Update

As many of you may remember, I’ve talked about a bathroom project that Scott and I were in the middle of, and that needed to get finished up before winter set in.

I thought I would show you what I was talking about, and where I’m at now.

About 2 weeks before he passed away, the water pipe coming thru the floor to the toilet broke. Bathroom flooded. Carpet and pad had to be ripped up. Scott repaired the pipe. I got the floor dried out. We were at the decision making stage of what kind of floor covering to put down.

Now for the good part. I went to our local home improvement store – and found a HUGE BLESSING of a deal!!!! (check out the price tag in the photo)

YUP!! Less than a throw-rug! So, I picked up this carpet, and some padding (boy – does THAT stuff stinketh!!!).

And do you want to know the most amazing thing of all?!? (hankey alert – at least for me)

Scott had picked up this small “carpet sample” just 2 days before he passed to see if I thought it would be a good color for the carpeting. I layed the “sample” on top of the carpet remnant I bought to show you what I saw when I compared the two……

It contains the SAME exact colors!!! No – I did not have this “sample” with me at the store…..In the natural – what are the odd’s????? The exact size remnant I needed – containing the exact same color Scotty had picked out!?!   🙂

Think he “helped” with my shopping? LOL

Next….Installation!

Have a great day!

Night Photography

We had quite a windstorm here last night, and since it was starting to blow the petals off of my Plum trees, I decided to TRY to take a few photos before the blooms were all gone…

Now yesterday afternoon, the blooms had just started opening, and by 10:00 PM last night – this is what the trees looked like. Then the 30 – 40 mph wind gusts REALLY kicked up. It had been very windy here all day, with 20-30 mph wind gusts, and several resulting Brush Fires. By 10pm last night, there were tornados on the ground a couple of counties over, and nasty winds and cloud to ground lightning shows here. I just knew that I’d have no blooms left on the trees by morning, so I attempted what I had never had any success at before – night photography…..

With a very bright back porch light, and my lil’ ol’ flash on my Canon, I don’t think they came out too badly. What do you think?????

The petals were being blown off of the trees even as I took these, and by this morning about half of the blooms were gone. So, I’m glad I got a few picts before they got “stripped”. Now, luckily, several of the blooms had not opened yet, so I may not even notice the damage in a few days. That would be a good thing, then I can get some pretty daytime photos.  😉

The Peach, Cherry, Pear and Apple trees are next in line for blooms……can’t wait!!!   🙂

 Have a great day!!

No Words, Just Birds…

Yesterdays visitors – The Invasion.

I had mass hysteria at every window in the house yesterday. Muckrunners foaming at the mouths, dancing around and emitting some absolutely gawdawfull sounds. Upon closer inspection, the following is what I found…..Everywhere!!! I thought you might like a peek.  😉  Enjoy!!

What Double Digits Below Zero Looks Like…

How about an informative photo post? Do you mind? I thought I’d show you what double-digit temps BELOW zero looks like – without any windchill – in Mid-Missouri… Now keep in mind, these were all taken as soon as the sun came up, or within a few hours thereafter (YES – we finally had SUN!!!) and there had been no wind all evening, so basically – the air froze.

Poor Peach Tree  😦

Poor Rose of Sharon….

My Frozen Rose Bush…

Enough frozen mess??? I think so…and this wasn’t even an ice storm! Trust me – you don’t even want to see what those look like around here!!

The good news is that in typical Missouri fashion, in less than 24 hours – we have a 50 degree temperature difference. Yup, at 3 AM my thermometer here was reading 29 degrees ABOVE zero!! So, in a few hours, once the sun comes up, we should start thawing in earnest. YAHOO!!!

So, enjoy the photos, stay inside if you can and think “warm, happy thoughts”!! I know that I would, if I could!!  😉

**NOTE: I just came across a REALLY cool blog post by a lady who lives at NORTH POLE, ALASKA and she had posted some amazing picts of what 50 DEGREES BELOW ZERO looks like….go take a look!!!!

Busy, Busy, Busy……

The Sunrise and Sunset Photo Album is uploaded, Crock-Pot Recipes have a page, probably 20 more Christmas Cookie recipes have been added, and last but not least – the Quick Breads/Cakes/Muffins page has been added for those who asked!! 🙂 The “candy/treat” page is good to go, and a few more “body scrub” recipes have been added. Hopefully things will now be easier for you to find and enjoy with less searching (however, I do have the “search” button on the upper right of the pages if you need it), and several more pages are in the works to get more of the quilty/crafty things uploaded for you to peruse. I know that this is not one of my normal posts – I’ll do that later today – but I needed to let everyone know, who asked for the above changes, that it has been done. 🙂 Enjoy, and I’ll talk to you more later today!!

Happy Sunday!
